Quarter 1 Blog Assignment

As I've talked about it in class, one of your major assignments during the first quarter involves participating in this blog. You are responsible for contributing one post of between 500 and 800 words, and five comments on the posts of others, each between 80 and 120 words. Your post may be an argumentative essay, an informative/explanatory essay, a narrative essay, or a short story. Your comments on the posts of others may address content, form, or style; and should be constructively critical.

In class, you all developed and decided on questions to do with the idea of American exceptionalism:

How have other communities impacted the US?
What about all of the oppressed minorities in the US? How do these minorities bear on the notion of American exceptionalism?
Whose opinion is it that the US is a unique country with an essential and positive role to play in human history?

There are also three questions that the junior teachers have developed, and are course-wide questions for this first quarter:

Is the US an exceptional country?
How have American writers encouraged the idea of American exceptionalism?
How have American writers critiqued the idea of American exceptionalism?

Your post should clearly address one or more of these six questions.

All posts are due by the time of your first English class the week of Monday, October 29. All comments are due by the time of your class on Friday, November 2. There will be regular English work that week. Plan ahead.
